PPP Interim Brief + Workshop (23/4/12) on 'Speaking From Experience'

Today we had an interim briefing for the year, outlining important dates and things to keep an eye out for; just for ease of use I'll copy down the notes I took for future reference and for efficiency when it comes to managing my time.

We also got a new practical brief - 'Speaking From Experience', which at it's core is basically about speaking to your former self and students just starting out in Leeds. How did I feel? What advice would I give to someone in that position? with my first year nearly over etc. Problem, Product, range, method of delivery etc all need to be considered along with tone of voice, research and everything other concern you would have with any other brief. We got off to a start by a short workshop, one which should be documented, along with initial ideas a list of observations i've made throughout the year in newer posts (above!)

*Presentation - 5-7 minute long, along with questions you may get asked*

Reflects on and looks at your experience. Things you've learnt, things you need to improve on. What you enjoyed, what you didn't, what you enjoyed finding out more about. A big in-depth reflective process. An evaluation and plan for moving forward. Have I got a clearer idea of where I'm headed, what my style is and what my strengths are? Communicate who you are and what your focus is starting to be. It'll make it easier to get a better understanding of each other especially for a more collaborative practice in year 2.

The group discussions we will have with Jon should be about questions, concerns we may have with collating all the data, and not about doing additional work.

TIME MANAGEMENT: YEAR CALENDAR

To help me time-keep and plan my days ahead I've designed a calendar for myself, which allows me to see the year ahead of me. I prefer this kind of calendar as I can visually see what's coming ahead of me, in days and helps me plan my time ahead. It's going to be hung up in my bedroom and frequently added to.

Plan moving forward

Plan for tomorrow - Tuesday (13/2/12)
I'm going to make daily plans the night before the day I plan for. So on Tuesday at 4:30 I'll reflect on the day I had and plan Wednesdays day planner.

So at 4:30/5:00 I basically reflect what I wanted to achieve today, if I did and whether I need to do it by 6. I'll also plan the outline for tomorrow, including coffee's, breaks, lunches etc. I'll continue this every day of the week and see how it pans out.

Here is the basic weekly plan I've outlined, taking into account workshops, seminars and things like that. It'll tell me the basic AM and PM plan, the daily planners will go a bit more in-depth on an hourly basis. Let's see if I can stick to it! I've outlined it from now (monday pm) so if anything changes I can just cross things out and move them around.
